The rail shoulders are cast in concrete sleepers and are used to secure the elastic rail clips and rails. According to different production processes, rail shoulders can be divided into cast rail shoulders and welded rail shoulders, both of which have the function of fixing elastic rail clips and protecting rail clips from being stolen. Kingrail Parts, as a professional manufacturer and supplier of rail fasteners, offers a wide range of standard high quality rail shoulders.
Kingrail Parts can produce various rail shoulders according to UIC, AREMA, GB, NF EN 1563(1997), DIN, JIS, BS and other standards.
Cast-in Shoulder:
As an embedded part of the rail fastening system, the cast shoulders are pressed into the concrete sleepers and assembled with E-clips to secure the rails. Our raw material for casting shoulders is cast iron, such as GB/T 1348-1988, NF EN 1563(1997), ISO1038, DIN 1693, JIS G5502(2001), KS D 4302, GOST 7293(1985) ) or BS EN 1563 (1997). The mechanical properties and chemical composition of the cast iron shoulder of the rail are shown in the following figure:

Welded Shoulder:
Welded shoulders are used in a typical location for rails, where the rail shoulders are welded to flat steel plates rather than standard sleepers. Welded shoulders are produced by hot forging according to the AREA standard. According to the customer's requirements, the material for the production of welded shoulders can be mild steel or medium carbon steel.
The rail shoulder design described above is suitable for almost all rail sizes, and the material is made of mild steel.
Rail Shoulder Installation Guide:
1. The welding of the shoulder fasteners makes it possible to manufacture the rail retention unit on the rail sleeper and the steel base plate when using E-type elastic rail clips to fasten the rail.
2. Although the rail cast in the shoulder is usually pressed into the concrete sleepers, it can also be welded to longer rail sections or supports for the manufacture of switches and crossing arrangements with vertical rail geometry.
3. The ability to weld the shoulder at a specific location determined by the layout design makes the shoulder very useful and cost effective.
4. Shoulder attachments for specific rail sections should be used according to design criteria to achieve the correct spring toe load. Also provided are certain shoulders with milled weld zone faces for better weld integrity.
